InternationalPurple PR (NY) (Shoes, Accessories)
Zyne, Arabic for "beauty", launched in 2016 with a vision of taking the babouche slipper, a classic icon of Moroccan culture and history, and bringing it into the 21st Century. This luxury footwear brand, led by two 26-year-olds, Zineb Britel and Laura Pujol, is reinventing classics, producing beautiful handmade pieces that are chic enough for the woman on the go.
More than just a glamorous pair of shoes, Britel and Pujol partner with local Moroccan co-operatives to produce each slipper. Every purchase comes with a card including the name of the woman who made the shoe as well as the time it took. Since launching in September 2016, they have gone from working with a team of 5 women to 18 today. Their work with these co-operatives gives women independence and equality amidst a climate of great social and economic change. Women's co-operatives play a vital role in improving the welfare of local women, supporting fair trade and sustainable practices that preserve and continue artisanal traditions for a new generation. Zyne invests in this co-operative providing women with full-time jobs, giving them lessons in embroidery and beading and helping them start a new life journey with better skills. Alongside this, Zyne works with sustainable materials, their raffia is 100% natural and the weaving technique used is very special to Morocco.
Not even in its second year of business, Zyne has attracted an impressive roster of global stockists. The brand has been picked up by 15 influential stores including: Net-a-Porter, Bergdorf Goodman, Lane Crawford and Moda Operandi. Fans include style influencers Eva Chen, Gala Gonzales and Rocky Barnes.
